Morton County is located in central North Dakota. it is named for Oliver P. Morton, a politician from Indiana.
The seat and largest city are both Mandan, set across the Missouri River from Bismarck.
Morton County borders Oliver, Burleigh, Emmons, Sioux, Grant, Stark and Mercer Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-94, ND-6, ND-21, ND-25, ND-31 and ND-49.
